Overview Reviews

Mr SiuMai is a hidden gem in San Jose, specializing in Asian fusion dim sum. Patrons rave about the fresh and flavorful offerings, especially the Siu Mai and various dumplings, which showcase a delightful blend of shrimp, beef, and chicken. The atmosphere is casual, perfect for quick takeout or an easygoing dine-in experience. Customers appreciate the modern POS system for convenient ordering, though some find it overwhelming due to the extensive menu.

While the food quality typically hits the mark, a few diners noted room for improvement in certain dishes, like the shrimp rice rolls and the need for additional sauce options.

Pretty good for a To-go order. Food was okay: Siu Mai was tasty but needed soy sauce, Shrimp Rice Rolls could be better, the sauce was grainy, the Bbq buns were the best out of the three. Would love to dine-in next time.

This won't be some fancy sit down dim sum spit with carts of dim sum flowing. It's literally a take out spot. You can dine in but it's way more casual. I've been happy grabbing some quick take out dumplings here. The workers are nice and they try to move as quick as possible. Ordering is easy (and dangerous). You go up to the courter, check out their touch screen and photos and try not to get overwhelmed and over order. I always over order. I'm glad there's this option for their dim sum fix.

Warning... parking can be a nightmare We have been going to this small dim sum place (can't recall if it had a name ) for years, mainly during Lunar New Year for the annual fresh #油角 (fried peanut dumplings?). It seemed that they have changed owner, renovated and modernized the shop with touch less POS. Just glad the 油角仔 is still an available item for New Year! The place is clean but crowded, they managed to put as many tanks as possible. The POS is simple to use, but due to the vast offerings it took me a while to get what I wanted. I am sure I will be a pro soon. The dim sum tasted pretty good and the prices are reasonable. The wooden tray they use is super cute. Overall very unassuming place with good value. I see myself coming here if I am in the area and want something quick and easy on the wallet and I will make a trip during Lunar New Year just for the fried treats.

We found out this dim sum place when we came for pho and decided to try it out the following week. The restaurant was small but offered dim sum full day. Ordering can be done at the kiosk or with the staff. They had a pretty wide selection of dim sum. We ordered pork belly & duck with rice, Siu Mai, chicken feet, and warm soy milk. Pork belly and duck were very crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. It came with rice and steamed lettuce. The Siu Mai we ordered had a mixture of shrimp, beef, and chicken Siu Mai, which were all freshly steamed. My favorite was the shrimp Siu Mai as the other two had strong ginger taste in them. Chicken feet were tender and well seasoned. Soy milk to my surprise, was served in a bowl instead of a cup, which was a little inconvenient to drink. Overall I think it's a descent place to get dim sum cravings satisfied at a reasonable price. Parking could be difficult during meal times because a lot of people came for pho next door.

For takeout dim sum, Mr SiuMai is solid. I'd say it's comparable to some sit down restaurants. Not cheap but I do appreciate that dim sum is served all day and super easy to order for to-go! HAR GOW: 5/5 ($7) + MUST try! Good amount of shrimp to dumpling ratio, so tasty SIU MAI: 4/5 ($6) + Solid and juicy. Pork could use some more flavor SHRIMP RICE ROLLS: 4/5 ($7) + No frills, pretty good! Rice roll itself was on the thicker end TURNIP CAKE: 3.5/5 ($5) + Good texture but a bit bland STICKY RICE IN LOTUS LEAF: 3.5/5 ($7) + Flavors are decent but rice was a bit mushy
